Maurice King, who is from the east coast town of Hutt, said he called police after receiving a report of a man's rape at her flat. Officers came to her door, asking her why she was having a go in there and she told them men from the local crime family were responsible. Police then entered her apartment, where detectives found her car and other stolen items. Their search turned up numerous videos she claimed he had taken before that evening. However, in only one video, which appeared to have been sent to detectives for several weeks, the victim had her head smashed and her bloody fingers chopped off by the men. One victim described how the men threw it out the window and told her to come back to the flat.
